The story behind the Church of Voluntaryism
The Church of Voluntaryism was not created from tradition, nor handed down by institutions. It was born from lived experience, moral awakening, and spiritual conviction. It began not as an idea, but as a way of life—chosen freely, lived courageously, and then declared publicly.

In 2025, after years of building The Free City of Liberstad and living according to the principles of voluntaryism, John and Sabrina Holmesland formally founded the Church of Voluntaryism. The Church was created as a sacred vessel to protect, express, and celebrate the voluntaryist worldview—not only as an ethical philosophy, but as a spiritual path grounded in peace, consent, and natural law.

Where the World Voluntaryist Organisation protects voluntaryism as a life stance, the Church offers its soul—a place for sovereign individuals to affirm their beliefs, partake in sacred ceremonies, and live in harmony with others by conscience rather than coercion.

The Church stands today as a sanctuary for those who know that true freedom is not just a right to claim, but a spiritual responsibility to uphold.

John Liberstad
Founder & Spiritual Leader
John Liberstad is the founder of the Church of Voluntaryism and author of its sacred text, The Voluntaryist Covenant. He has dedicated his life to building a new world—one rooted in peace, consent, and moral truth. His work is not theoretical, but lived: he is also the founder of The Free City of Liberstad, a sovereign, private community where voluntaryism is practiced in daily life.

John’s journey began with a deep rejection of coercion in all its forms. Through years of study, spiritual reflection, and hands-on creation, he came to understand that true freedom is not merely political—it is moral, spiritual, and natural. From that realization, the Church of Voluntaryism emerged as a sanctuary for those who live by conscience rather than command.

As the Church’s first preacher and spiritual guide, John leads not by authority, but by integrity. His mission is to protect the Covenant, preserve its purity, and help others awaken to a life of truth and voluntary relation. He sees spiritual leadership not as power over others, but as responsibility for the path.
He continues to serve as a spiritual steward, founder, builder, teacher, and father—embodying the values he teaches and offering his life as a living testament to the principles of voluntaryism.
Sabrina Liberstad
Co-Founder & Guardian of Life and Land
Sabrina Liberstad is the co-founder of the Church of Voluntaryism and a vital force in the founding and ongoing development of The Free City of Liberstad. As the Church’s Guardian of Life and Land, she protects the sanctity of sacred spaces, family life, and the moral foundation upon which the Church and community are built.

Sabrina’s strength lies not in loud declarations, but in her unwavering presence, spiritual depth, and quiet authority. She brings care, stability, and balance to both family and community—holding space for others to grow, heal, and live freely. In every act of service, she honors the core values of the Covenant: peace, sovereignty, and voluntary relationship.

She oversees the sanctification and stewardship of holy ground, supports sacred ceremonies, and brings a deeply feminine wisdom to the spiritual work of the Church. Her nurturing guidance and intuitive insight help ensure that both individuals and families within the community remain aligned with truth, natural law, and self-responsibility.

As a mother, spiritual guide, and co-creator of a sovereign future, Sabrina embodies the heart of the Church. Her life is a living expression of what it means to walk the voluntaryist path with love, humility, and strength.
The Liberstad Family
A living example of peace, purpose, and voluntary life
The Church of Voluntaryism was not built by ideology alone—it was built by a family. The Liberstad family is the living foundation of both the Church and The Free City of Liberstad. Their home is sacred ground. Their lives are a daily act of spiritual responsibility. Together, they embody what it means to live voluntarily, peacefully, and in harmony with natural law.

In a world where families are often fractured by systems of coercion, the Liberstad Family stands as a powerful symbol of unity, self-ownership, and intergenerational freedom. They are not perfect—they are real. And through their real, daily choices, they demonstrate that voluntaryism is not just a belief. It is a way to raise children, build homes, resolve conflict, and shape the future.
